| Cook County Hospital was constructed
to replace a sprawling 13-building campus, whose main pavilion was
opened in 1914. From the beginning, the new hospital was designed
to provide the most advanced medical care and increased efficiency.
Designed for optimum patient care and financial
performance, the 1,185,000 square foot hospital provides 464 inpatient,
critical, specialty, and general beds; comprehensive outpatient
specialty/diagnostic and treatment facilities; and an adjacent,
2,100-car parking structure.
Creating an environment that is both comfortable
and quiet goes a long way in ensuring patient recovery. By using
THERMOMASS insulated concrete precast panels in the new addition
to Cook County Hospital, the project administrators were able to
accomplish both goals.
THERMOMASS precast panels have excellent sound
absorption properties which keep the noise of metropolitan traffic
outside and allow for a quieter hospital environment. Add to that
the excellent energy efficient properties of THERMOMASS and they
have one of the most comfortable and energy-efficient buildings
in the city. |
