| The Home Depot currently has over
1,500 warehouse-style home improvement stores in the United States,
Canada, and Mexico. In its quest to become the world’s largest
home improvement retailer, The Home Depot has faced many obstacles
- especially competition.
The Home Depot decided that the easiest way to
gain an edge on the competition was strength in numbers. The Home
Depot’s plan was to build more stores than the competition,
and to do it quickly.
They found the solution in tilt-up construction
and the THERMOMASS Building Insulation System. By using the two
components together, The Home Depot was able to launch an aggressive
building effort to become the largest home improvement retailer.
In fact, Home Depot opens a new store every 43 hours!
When The Home Depot launched its aggressive building
program, they had a need for a fast track building method that allowed
their facilities to comply with stringent energy codes in the upper
Midwest.
The Home Depot also needed a building system that
could keep up with its building schedule. Home Depot building schedules
are extremely aggressive and once the decision has been made to
initiate a project, time is of the essence to get doors open and
have inventory on the floor. THERMOMASS and tilt-up allowed The
Home Depot to meet this aggressive schedule.
By choosing THERMOMASS and tilt-up, The Home Depot
was able to reduce the average construction time of its retail centers
to three months. This is twice as fast as the masonry construction
method previously used in many of The Home Depot retail centers.
We are proud of the nearly 100 Home Depot facilities
that have been built with the THERMOMASS Building Insulation System,
and we look forward to being used in many more.
