| The Korte Recreation Center is
a two-story facility located in Highland, Illinois, and is one of
southern Illinois' largest recreation centers. The Korte Company
served as the single-source contractor for this design-build-furnish
project, and they are understandably proud of this beautiful facility.
"We brought all of the most appropriate technologies,
experts, state-of-the-art materials, and the highest level of customer
service to our client's aid in this project," said Ralph Korte.
The Korte Company used over 21,000 square feet
of THERMOMASS insulated panels to make this recreation center a
success in energy efficiency.
With a 5,000 square foot natatorium and three
basketball courts inside, moisture and temperature control were
major issues to be addressed. The THERMOMASS Building Insulation
System eliminates thermal bridging, which keeps the temperatures
stable inside and eliminates condensation inside the insulated walls,
thereby impeding mold growth in the building.
The decreased energy usage translates into thousands
of dollars in savings in energy costs over the lifetime of the building.
Features of this facility include the natatorium
and water slide, a 13,000 square foot gymnasium, men's and women's
locker room, a weight room, aerobics facilities, a running track,
and four conference rooms.
For this facility, The Korte Company was the recipient
of a 2002 National Design-Build Award from the Design-Build Institute
of America for the Best Public Project under $15 million.
