| When South Woods State Prison opened
in the spring of 1997, it became the newest and largest facility
in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. South Woods provides
a substance abuse treatment program, regional medical clinics, an
extended care unit, a dialysis unit and a regional food service
that provides thousands of meals per day to institutions throughout
the state.
The prison was constructed using 1,440 THERMOMASS
insulated modular cells manufactured by the Oldcastle Precast Modular
Group.
THERMOMASS was chosen for this project because
of its ability to combine energy efficiency, moisture control and
speed of construction in a secure and durable facility.
Keeping the inmates comfortable and secure is
a priority at South Woods, and the THERMOMASS Building Insulation
System has helped them achieve that goal. Using THERMOMASS, South
Woods has created a secure facility that won't cause facility maintenance
headaches.
THERMOMASS eliminates thermal short circuits, air
infiltration, and moisture drive through the walls. No moisture
means no mold or mildew.
"The latest available technology has been
included to provide the department with an institution that will
operate with greater efficiency and provide a safe, secure and controlled
environment for the staff and inmates," said Stan Nunn, an
administrator at the facility.
